Engine failures in conventional ignition system
The engine will not start and work well when conventional ignition system is misfire, the spark is weak, the fire is missing and the ignition advance regulator fails. Common engine faults may be caused by the ignition system. Engine failure in electronic ignition system will be discussed later.
1. The common problems that prevent engine starting
Ignition coil
There are open circuit and short circuit in the primary winding and secondary winding.

Distributor
(1) Rotor burning loss and leakage of electricity.
(2) Distributor cap is dirty, damaged and leakage of electricity.

High voltage wire
(1) Damage of high voltage wire result in leakage, loose, fracture.
(2) The high-voltage wire is inserted incorrectly.

The spark plugs
(1) Spark plug carbon deposition.
(2) Spark plug electrode burning loss or the gap is too large.

Ignition signal generator
(1) Ignition signal generator is faulty.
(2) There is a fault in the connection circuit or components of the signal generator.

Electronic igniter
(1) Internal circuit fault of components in electronic igniter.
(2) The electronic igniter is not well grounded.

Switches and circuits
(1) Faulty ignition switch.
(2) Open circuit and short circuit in the ignition coil primary circuit.

Ignition timing

The initial ignition advance angle is too large.

2. The engine flameout immediately after starting
(1) Additional resistance of the ignition coil is open circuit.
(2) Faulty ignition switch.
(3) Open circuit and short circuit in the ignition coil primary circuit.

3. Unstable engine idle speed
(1) Distributor cap is dirty, damaged and leakage of electricity.
(2) Damage of high voltage wire leakage, loose, fracture.
(3) The high-voltage conductor is inserted incorrectly.
(4) Open circuit and short circuit in the primary winding and secondary winding.
(5) Spark plug carbon deposition.
(6) Spark plug electrode burning loss or the gap is too large.
(7) The initial ignition advance angle is too large.

4. Poor engine acceleration
(1) Poor centrifugal ignition advance device.
(2) Open circuit and short circuit in the primary winding and secondary winding.
(3) Spark plug carbon deposition.
(4) Spark plug electrode burning loss or the gap is too large.
(5) The initial ignition advance angle is too large.

5. Engine carburetor tempering
(1) The high-voltage wire error.
(2) Poor centrifugal ignition advance device.

6. Exhaust pop/bang

Ignition advance regulator
(1) Poor vacuum ignition advance device.
(2) Poor centrifugal ignition advance device.

Ignition coil

(1) Spark plug carbon deposition.
(2) Spark plug electrode burning loss or the gap is too large.

Electronic igniter
Internal circuit fault of components in electronic igniter

Ignition timing
The initial ignition advance Angle is too small.

7. Engine knock
Ignition advance regulator.
(1) Ignition advance regulator.
